PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Construction of a mixed use building on a compact property, built to fit in with the neighborhood.
COMPLETED: 2007
PRIESTLY MIXED USE BUILDING
The typical passerby of “F” Street in Arcata would probably not have realized that there was a vacant lot, at least not until Pacific Builders constructed the artfully designed mixed use building for Barry and Tracy Priestly.
FEATURES
The project was designed to fit in with the mixed age houses of the neighborhood that date from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. Downstairs, the building is occupied by the Vaissade Mortgage Company and SEEEE Engineering. Upstairs, there is a single apartment. This is in keeping with the other uses in the neighborhood, which has many houses that have been converted to office use. One of the challenges of the construction was the lack of on-site storage or staging area. Pacific Builders addressed the problem by having materials delivered in small, daily loads and carefully planning the sequence of construction so that materials were not on hand until they were ready to be installed.
